Woman Gives Her Pet Beetle A Marker, Calls It An Artist And Is Selling Its Paintings For $150
Source - Spike, a stag beetle from Japan, is capturing the hearts and minds of people around the world with his original drawings. Spike and his owner, an English teacher named Mandy, skyrocketed to internet fame on Monday. Mandy said she was experimenting with the kinds of things Spike could grasp with his strong mandibles when she gave him a marker.
“He moved it around on the page, so I took some photos of his ‘work,’” she said. His art was so popular, his owner put some of it up for sale on eBay, where the top bid was more than $150 as of Saturday afternoon. According to Spike’s official Twitter account, 15 percent of the proceeds will go to stag beetle conservation.
“My other beetles have their unique charms, but none have had the gumption to hold a pen!” Mandy told the Irish Examiner. Mandy notes that stag beetles are not particularly affectionate, but they are “very fun to watch.”
I think I’m just going to take a dump on a piece of paper and put it for sale. If people are buying beetle art there’s no way they don’t buy poop art. It would be one thing if his art was cool but it’s lame. It’s literally just scribbles on a piece of paper. Nothing unique about it. Not only that, it does a disservice to other, real, animal artists. Ever seen an elephant paint? It’s unbelievable, their paintings are basically photographs. They’re like the Picasso’s of the animal kingdom. The best part is they’re humble. Not like beetle lady, peacocking around all pretentious calling her paintings “work.” Claiming they’re capturing the hearts and minds the world. Give me a break.
Must suck to be an actual artist in 2017, like an actual, old fashioned painter. You pour your heart and soul into your work only to get cucked by a beetle. Also must suck knowing you’re going to make zero dollars until you’re dead. The art game is very real.
That being said, I’m not going to hate on Beetle woman. She’s making one hundred fifty dollars per painting and I’m sitting here making fun of her. Joke’s on me. I should open a beetle farm. Get two or three of them cranking out a painting a day. Would be a nice little side hustle.
